DETAILED ITINERARY

Annapurna Region - with Chitwan and Kathmandu Valley


Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu.

You will be met by our representative and transferred to the hotel.

Overnight at Hotel Shanker or similar

Day 2: Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Patan City

In the morning after breakfast, we start our sightseeing tour of Pashupatinath - One of the holiest Hindu shrines situated on the banks of the Holy Bagmati River. The richly ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga, (or phallic symbol) of Lord Shiva. This is also a cremation site for Hindus, where the dead bodies are burned with ritual ceremony on the banks of the holy river. Just a few minutes drive from Pashupatinath is Boudhanath which is one of the biggest stupas in the entire world. With its four pair of eyes in four cardinal directions, it keeps watch for righteous behaviour and human property.

In the afternoon drive to Patan city. This sister capital is an ancient city also known as Lalitpur and is situated on the southern bank of the Bagmati River, 5kms southeast of Kathmandu. This city is full of Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments with bronze gateways, guardian deities and wonderful carvings. It is also known as the city of fine arts and for the superb craftsmanship of its artisans.

Day 03: Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath and Bhaktapur

In the morning after breakfast drive to Swayambhunath. Regarded as more than 2000yrs old, this stupa is situated at 77m/252ft above the level of the valley and thus has a magnificent birds-eye view of Kathmandu Valley. From Swayambhunath we drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square. With more than 50 temples and shrines within a few blocks of one another, the square contains one of the most concentrated groupings of historical structures in the valley. This complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between the12th &18th centuries, used to be the seat of ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu.In the afternoon drive to Bhaktapur. The urban city of Bhaktapur, from the medieval period also known as Bhadgaon, has an area of 4sq. miles in a conch-shell shape. Bhaktapur also means the city of devotees. We will visit the Nyatapola Temple, which at 30m/98ft., is not only the highest temple in the valley but also one of the best examples of traditional Nepali Temple architecture.

After the sightseeing we drive to Nagarkot. Nagarkot is a village located 32kms/20miles east of Kathmandu. It is located on the north-eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley at an elevation close to 2,072m/6,800ft. It is one of the most scenic spots in the region, renowned for its sunrise and sunset views of the Himalayas. You can pick Mount Everest out with its snow-topped peaks on a clear day as there is an observation tower at the very top of the village’s hills.

Day 04: Transfer to the airport and fly to Pokhara.

After breakfast visit around Nagarkot then transfer to the airport and fly to Pokhara.
The Pokhara Valley, the gateway to the Annapurna region is one of the most picturesque spots of Nepal. The never-waning beauty of the valley is enhanced by its lovely lakes - Phewa, Begnas and Rupa, surrounded by the glacial region of the Annapurna Range of the Himalayas. This scintillating valley is situated 200kms/ 124miles west of Kathmandu, linked by the Prithvi highway. This highway passes along a highly picturesque region amidst the midland valleys and the Terai belt of the Kingdom. The magnificent views of the Dhaulagiri, Himalchuli, Macchapuchhre and five peaks of the Annapurna provide a highly dramatic view in a subtropical setting. Pokhara is definitely a place not to be missed.

Day 05: Phewa Lake boat ride & Peace Pagoda

In the morning take a boat ride on Phewa lake to the shore beneath the Peace Pagoda. Once there it's a steep forest incline to the top that takes most people 45 minutes to climb. The trail can get muddy and slippery so do take caution. Once at the top make your way to the World Peace Pagoda. There are several small cafes nearby and an excellent viewing platform to see the Annapurna mountain range. After our lovely views we head back down to the lake. Once there, we drive back to our hotel.

Day 06: Trek Pokhara to Tikhedhunga Walking 6-7kms/5miles 5hrs 1527m/5010ft

Drive approximately 1.5 hours from Pokhara to Nayapul and start to our trek to Tikhedhunga on a nice dirt road alongside beautiful river stream. The beginning of the trek gives you glimpses of the Himalayan peaks, but the rest of the day we will enjoy the beauty of green mountain surroundings and local villages.

We will spend the night at a comfortable Guest House (called the tea house) (B,L,D)

Day 07: Trek Tirkhedhunga-Banthanti Walking 4hrs 2467m/8095ft

After a mouth watering mountain breakfast at the tea house, we start the trek of the day. A difficult day of the trek, we have split with an overnight in Banthanti. The first part of the trek is a steep upward walk for and then a gradual upward walk. Approx. 3000 Stone Steps up to Ulleri – Walking distance Approx. 3 Hours and Ulleri to Banthanti – Walking distance Approx. 1 Hour. The walk on the stone paved steps is a daring adventure early in the morning. The whole trail leads you through villages and forest.

Day 08: Trek Banthanti - Gorepani Walking approx 4hrs 2885m/9465ft

After our breakfast we walk to Gorepani, by breaking up the journey we can take our time and arrive in Gorepani early for some wonderful views. Take our time to wander around town and get acclimatized to the higher altitude and rest up for the early departure tomorrow.

Day 09: Excursion of Poon Hill and trek to Tadapani Walking 13kms/8miles 7.5hrs 2700m/8858ft

Early morning, 1.5hrs hike to Poon hill, the highlight of the trip. We hope to see the spectacular sunrise and the views of 10 different peaks. After we have enjoyed the views, we will trek back to Ghorepani for breakfast.

After breakfast, we will trek to Tadapani, another great place to take in close up views of the Himalaya. It is a pleasant walk through a lush green forest.

Day 10:Trek Tadapani (2675m.) Ghandruk Walking 6kms/4miles 3hrs 1950m/6398ft

Comparatively, today is the easiest trek of all days. We trek through the forests of Rhododendron and oak, while we hear the soothing chirps of birds on the way. This trek is great for birds lovers. Ghandruk is a big Gurung village, with a handicraft centre and Gurung museum. From this village we will hopefully have good views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna (7455m/24459ft), Annapurna III (7755m/25443ft) and Fishtail. Ghandruk village is a World Heritage Site.

Day 11: Trek Ghandruk to Tolka walking 7kms/4.5miles 5-6hrs 1700m/5577ft

After breakfast, we will have breath taking views of waterfalls, landscapes, Annapurna South, Himchuli, Fishtail and other mountains. We continue our walk steeply down, to Modi Khola and then climb up steeply about an hour more then to reach Landruk then on almost flat trails for about an hour - stone steps, then steep up for 20 mins to reach Tolka.

Day 12:Trek Tolka to Kande - drive to Pokhara walking 4-5hrs

This morning we will have views of the Annapurnas, Himalayas & scenic settlement villages as we walk 2hrs uphill and then 2-3hrs downhill. After we finish our trek we have a 30min drive to Pokhara. The rest of the day is free to celebrate finishing our trek!

Day 13: Pokhara to Chitwan

In the morning after breakfast we drive from Pokhara to Chitwan. Chitwan is located 125kms/77miles from Pokhara and 165kms/102miles from Kathmandu, it is best known for its culture and wildlife activities. Chitwan means "heart of the jungle", because of its dense forests and wild animals. Chitwan offers many jungle, as well as cultural activities, such as canoeing trips, jungle walks, visits to ethnic local houses, cultural dances performed by local tribes people, visit to sunset point, jeep drive and more. Your Journey does not support elephant back safari rides that are offered in the park. This afternoon enjoy a village visit by oxcart.

Day 14: Full days Jeep Safari in Chitwan National Park

You will spend a full day in the park - more chance to spot rhinos, elephants and the elusive Tiger. There are a few spots to visit in the park and look out towers to enjoy the view. Box lunch.

Day 15: Bird Watching and Dug out Canoe ride

This morning you will enjoy a birdwatching walk along the river, maybe spot some rhinos along your way. After a rest or wander around town and lunch you will head out for an afternoon dug out canoe ride.

Day 16: Drive to Bharatpur and fly to Kathmandu

Drive approximately 30mins to the Bharatpur airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. On arrival in Kathmandu you will be met and transferred to the Shanker Hotel. In the evening we say farewell to our fellow travellers and guide, while we enjoy a Nepalese dinner and ethnic dance show.

Day free until departure transfer to the airport for your international flight.
